01 / Session Packs & Coaching Memberships
Define the offer before you sell it.
Offer a fixed block of sessions, recurring coaching or an online or hybrid package. Specify the sessions or coaching access included, the price and period covered. Clients should understand what they bought without relying on the package name.
For memberships, explain cycle dates, cancellation and pauses. For packs, make expiry and booking eligibility explicit. State any rollover rule so clients know what happens to unused sessions.
- Describe included sessions and any agreed coaching access.
- Show cycle dates, expiry and rollover terms.
- Explain cancellation, pause and renewal conditions before purchase.

Give every session credit a clear status.
A single remaining-session number hides an important distinction. A credit reserved for next Thursday is already committed; it is not another session the client can book. Separate available, reserved and used credits so your next conversation starts from the same balance.
Keep a history of what changed that balance: a purchase, booking, attendance, cancellation or expiry. When an attendance correction changes a credit outcome, preserve the reason. The coach reviewing the record should be able to understand the total.

8 purchased = 5 used + 1 reserved + 2 available.

Discuss the next block with the current one in view.
When a pack runs low or a paid period approaches its end, review upcoming appointments, remaining credits and what you last agreed. The replenishment conversation can then be about the next useful block of coaching.
Keep that conversation distinct from a confirmed renewal. A client saying yes, opening checkout or receiving an invoice does not create new session credits. The next paid cycle begins only after its payment is confirmed. A failed renewal needs follow-up while existing paid rights continue under their agreed terms.

An open checkout or a positive reply does not create paid credits.
04 / Session Packs & Coaching Memberships
Handle changes against the agreement the client accepted.
Apply the booking's disclosed policy to cancellations, moves and no-shows. An eligible cancellation can return a reserved credit; a late cancellation may use or forfeit it under those terms. Pack expiry and the treatment of already-reserved sessions also need clear rules.
Returning a session credit is separate from refunding the pack purchase. A pack refund needs its own review of used sessions, upcoming reservations and remaining rights. A pause should show what changes and when, so both people understand the status of coaching already paid for.
Changes under agreed terms
- Eligible cancellation
- Return reserved credit
- Pack cash refund
- Separate review
- Upcoming reservations
- Check before refund
Restoring a session entitlement does not itself refund money.
A coaching example
Alex has eight credits. Here is where they stand.
In this illustrative example, Alex buys an eight-session pack. Five credits are used, one is reserved for an upcoming appointment and two are available: eight equals five used, plus one reserved, plus two available. The coach can see both the balance and the booking attached to it.
If Alex cancels that appointment within the agreed policy, its credit returns to available. That restores a session entitlement; it does not refund money. Before Alex purchases another pack, the coach can discuss the next training block with the remaining sessions in view.
Eight credits, accounted for

8 = 5 used + 1 reserved + 2 available.

8 = 5 + 0 + 3. One entitlement returned; no money refunded.

Practical questions
A few things to know.
Can I offer both a session pack and a membership?
That is the planned model. A pack provides a defined block of sessions, while a recurring membership provides the stated benefits for each paid cycle. Online and hybrid offers can include agreed coaching access as well as sessions. Each offer needs its own clear terms.
Can clients book using credits from their next renewal?
No. An unpaid future renewal does not create usable credits. Bookings use eligible credits that already exist, taking account of the service, client, expiry and disclosed booking rules. A recurring appointment request also needs its actual dates and current funding checked before confirmation.
Does redeeming a credit incur another Mako fee?
No. Under the proposed policy, Mako charges 1% of eligible captured service principal after discounts at purchase, with no second fee on redemption. A $100 eligible pack purchase means $1 to Mako. Separately recorded tax, tips, offline payments and Mako software invoices are excluded from the fee basis. Software subscription, provider fees and applicable tax are separate.
What happens if a membership payment fails?
The failed renewal grants no new cycle credits and creates a payment follow-up. It does not erase benefits already purchased under their existing terms. A successful retry can confirm the new paid period; a conversation or checkout attempt alone cannot.
